Flu vaccine to be extended to everyone aged 50 to 64 years
From Wednesday 15 January 2025, the seasonal flu vaccination will also be available for everyone aged 50 to 64 years of age. The Public Health Agency (PHA) is urging everyone who is eligible for vaccination to take up the offer when invited, particularly those at greatest risk as flu continues to circulate at high levels.
Those who are at greatest risk and are currently eligible to get the flu vaccine are advised to make arrangements now to get it ahead of an anticipated increase in demand when availability is expanded on 15 January.
Stop Smoking
Five top tips for giving up smoking:
- Make a date to give up – and stick to it!
- Make a plan. Think about what could help you stop smoking, such as using a nicotine-replacement product, and have it ready before the date you plan to stop.
- Get support from your local Stop Smoking Service. Also, let your family and friends know that you're quitting. Some people find that talking to friends and relatives who have stopped can be helpful.
- Keep busy to help take your mind off cigarettes. Try to change your routine, (and plan alternative activities for places you associate with smoking) and avoid the shop where you normally buy cigarettes.
- Remind yourself that the money saved now from not smoking can be used for other things you or your family want or need.

Seasonal Flu & Covid Vaccinations
Vaccines are our best protection this winter as they offer essential protection against dangerous viruses like flu and COVID-19.
Both these viruses can be life-threatening and lead to hospitalisation. For some people, catching flu and COVID-19 at the same time increases the risk of complications and even death.
